Writing Contests: Creative Loafing

Enter writing contests to tell your storyCreative Loafing’s writing contest  for this year is based around the theme of “Crush.” Come up with 3,000 words or less on the idea of puppy love or use the theme as a metaphor and you could be a winner of $500. The magazine warns that the word limit is strictly enforced, so count carefully.

To enter, submit your work to Creative Loafing’s submission site before 5 pm on November 3, 2014.

Writing Contests: Ryan R. Gibbs Award

Pull out your quill and enter some writing contestsThe New Delta Review is not just looking for any entries with its recent writing contest — it’s looking for work that stuns. The annual Ryan R. Gibbs short story contest is looking for a compelling story in a neat package (1,500 words or less). The winning entry will receive a cash prize as well as publication.

There is a $10 per entry submission fee; additional submission guidelines can be found on the New Delta Review’s website. Better get writing though – all entries are due by October 4, 2015.

Writing Contests: Big Pond Rumors

Finish your entry to some writing contests.Big Pond Rumors has relaunched its ezine, and with that, it has relaunched its writing contests. Aspiring writers interested in entering, aren’t limited to genre type and the ezine accepts both poetry (up to 75 lines) and short stories (up to 5,000 words). There is a $7 entry fee per work, although authors can submit multiple entries into the contest. All entries are due by November 30, 2014.

Writing Contests: Calling on the Saints and Sinners

type your way into writing contestsIt’s that time of year again: Time for the Saints and Sinners annual writing contest. This is the sixth year for the contest, which calls for previously unpublished short fiction stories (4,000 to 7,000 words) that have LGBT content on the loose theme of “saints and sinners.” The contest is open to all authors, in whatever stage of their writing career they might be.

There is a $15 entry fee and submission guidelines can be found here. All entries are due by November 15, 2014.

Writing Contests: Celebrating all things vine

Enter writing contests to tell your storyIn this year’s annual writing contest sponsored by Fountainhead Bookstore, it’s all about the vine. Short stories (up to 2,500 words) can be submitted before October 1, 2014 to be considered in this year’s contest. Winners will receive a reception at the bookstore, along with a $100 certificate for the store.

Stories can be on any topic, but special consideration will be given to stories that have vineyards as part of the theme. Submission information details and entry fee can be found at the bookstore’s website.
